The Attachment Method
Attachments allow you to upload files and attach them to your post. The ability to attach and download attachments is determined by the "Can attach files" and "Can download files" permissions respectively. The following image highlights the attachment tab in green.
To add an attachment, find the Upload attachment section of the posting page and click the Add files button. Once you have pressed this button a new window will pop up allowing you to browse your local computer. Navigate to the directory in which the image(s), video(s) or document(s) you wish to upload to the post are stored, select them, and click open.
You will note that a loading bar will appear under the Status heading in the Attachments upload row. You will know when the images has uploaded successfully because a green tick will replace the loading bar under the Status heading. An example of how this looks is presented in the following image.
A comment may be placed in the File comment text box. Clicking Add the file will upload and attach the file to the post. To upload multiple files, repeat the process.
To delete an attachment, find the Posted attachments section of the posting page and click the Delete file button for the desired attachment.
Attachments can be displayed within the post text by clicking the Place inline button for the desired attachment. When an attachment is placed inline, text similar to a BBCode is inserted into the post text so that it may be moved. If an attachment is not placed inline, it will be displayed at the end of the post. The following image shows an example of where I placed the mouse cursor at the point I wanted to insert image in the post. I then clicked on the Place Inline button you can see highlighted in red. This placed the tag, circled in green in this example image, into the spot where my mouse cursor was placed. It will then show up in the same place when you click Submit.
Attachments are controlled by a set of restrictions, namely file size and file type.
- File Size: The maximum file size for uploaded files is set by the Administrator. Currently we have set the default to unlimited.
- File Type: The types of files allowed for upload are restricted by their file extension. The allowed extensions are set by the Administrator.
The Img button Method
You may not always have, or wish to, upload images to a post from your local machine. It may be an image you have found somewhere else on line and want to share it in your post. It may also be that you have your own online image storage facility and would prefer to link to that instead.
To cater for this there is a BBCode (button) inside the post editor entitled Img.
Two very important things to remember when using this button are: many users do not appreciate lots of images being shown in posts and secondly the image you display must already be available on the internet (it cannot exist only on your computer for example, unless you run a webserver).
To display an image you must surround the URL pointing to the image with tags. This is done by clicking on the Img button then pasting or typing the URL to the image, between the two tags as shown circled in green in the following image.
If you want users to visit the site on clicking the image you can also wrap an image in a [url][/url] tag if you wish also circled in green in the above image.
