Bonhams Wrangham online auction (sale number 25125)

Postby jimfowlie » Sat Jun 09, 2018 7:33 pm

Has anybody got any thoughts on what is on offer? All lots seem to be reduced from there original estimates.

I don't get anything except a message that the lots haven't been posted yet.

Jim:
Since the lots in the upcoming Wrangham online auctions are all left overs from the first 6 Wrangham auctions in 2010-2015 I think it is only natural for Bonhams to reduce their estimates. This to spark our interest :)

Matthew:
When we were at the viewing at the Fine japanese art auction 17 May we were given a pamphlet for the upcoming Wrangham online auction. It has a description, period, artist, estimate, small picture and reference to the original Wrangham catalouges for each lot. The auction is going on from June 18 to July 9.

Hi Jim,

I’m pretty sure we are talking about the same publication :) It was actually Suzannah Yip that called it a pamphlet in a mail after I asked when we could see pictures bigger than the «stamp» sized ones within this:

Yes, this is the one.
I wonder when they'll post the lots on line.

Hi Matthew,

This is a quote from my mail dialouge with Suzannah at Bonhams:
«You will be able to access 'proper images' of the online-only Wrangham auction from the 18th June - the pamphlet is only meant to be a facilitator as normally they are not even produced for on-line only auctions.»

Ok, thank you.
I'll sit tight until then (maybe look at the old auctions and see what might be still available)

Hi Matt - regarding netsuke it seems to be mainly Ivory being pushed through. It might be that Katchen was moved, the Wrangham 7 was brought forward? Probably the last Ivory sale we see from Bonham's here in the UK. This being said, it's not stacked with ivory pieces.

Thank you Martyn.
Roy was kind enough to send me the auction list.
You're right, there aren't too many non-ivory netsuke.
