Bonhams Katchen Collection Part II

Postby onimh » Tue Apr 11, 2017 1:19 am

I received a copy of the auction catalog this afternoon.
As always, Bonhams did a fine job in presenting a beautiful collection.

Well, without revealing what I might be bidding on (if anything as I haven't really decided yet), I can certainly say which netsuke interest me the most. These include those that are too expensive for my budget, or ivory, which I can't buy.
1-clam's dream
7-jurojin
8-Ikkaku
14-Oni
20-ghost
35-mule and foreigner
73,74-snakes
110-five monkeys (probably my favorite)
114-116-cockerel
154,155-cranes
165-octopus
168-carp (another top pick)

An excellent collection but none really wow me like the swimming tiger with her cub in the last auction.

Honestly I am glad they are all outside of my budget, nothing wowed me.

Speaking of the WOWs, which I will absolutely not even try bidding on, most definitely are (in no particular order):

Vlad-No WOWs for me on these (the crane is up there-perhaps a wow). I should've added one or two of the shishi as well.

I guess, I will have to continue working on further developing my taste then...

Vlad, if you find a class that will teach me why your picks aren't worth a wow please sign me up with you.
