Peter: really amazing to see the dog pictured in your hand! The catalogue's picture seem a little distorted especially on the color. It is truly a wonder piece!

Do you have any kaigyokusai's picture that you can share?

Thanks!

Thank you for the great choice of pieces for your pictures, Peter !
Agree with Szwang that Peter's pictures of the "Shaggy Dog and Pup" do it much justice, and it was indeed amazing to hold.

About the Kaigyokusai pieces : most of them seemed to confirm for me the often heard opinion :
"great technique / very best part of the ivory tusk / but somehow a bit "lifeless".
I adore the KM "Monkey with young" that is in the Baur Museum, but many of the bleak ivory ones that were in this sale did not speak in the same way to me. (but that's just personal taste, sorry)

Peter, Thank you for all the wonderful images! Loved seeing everyones faces too!
I have to say, all the netsuke to me look better in your hand than the images in the catalogue--maybe just warmer, but I sure wanted to hold all of them. It would have been hard to decided which of the wood ones to bid on. I loved the tiger and the rabbit, and the dog was really special too. Some day.....In the mean time, thanks so much for including us and sharing your images.

Is that Martyn wearing a jacket and tie? He is looking quite proper I must say! Looks like he's conducting a business meeting or maybe intense netsuke discussion.

Great to see those pictures Peter ! especially the Euronetsuke crowd, everyone still gets on post-brexit :D

Now I must confess that the large Tiger you photographed is heading towards NZ after it gets it's CITES passport ! If you have a pic of the under-surface could you post it - a very fine honey coloured curved under belly with big fat paws, the quality implies from a master rather than ordinary school work.
This is classical Osaka piece, probably from the master Sadayoshi.
The catalogue states that it was purchased by Katchen in 1961 from Sotheby's. I was told by a senior collector that the majority of the great pieces were purchased by Julius during his life-time ie prior to 1969.

Now who was that Russian man pictured with the 2 figure salute?

ps; I'd love to know what Klaus bought this week ... he always has the best instinct

I was intending to have a go at the lovely wood Oni pictured previously - but was told that the old damage on the back was too severe to live with
