Monkeys examining netsuke

I always enjoyed these netsuke. I think they poke fun at me when I get too serious about my collection.

My favorite is the first picture. It was my first netsuke and was carved by Meigyokusai. Not only do I like the subject matter but it feels so good in my hands I think I actually rubbed off some of the black coloring on his head. Even though I think the Masatami in the last picture is a better carving.I have more of a sentimental attachment to the Meigyokusai.

What an interesting collection. These arouse a series of emotions in me. Definitely Planet of the Apes, especially number 3. :D

Size is something.
