Millstone Dresser

Postby Thomas1 » Sun Dec 03, 2017 12:48 pm

Here is my most recent find. He is looking up in dismay because he has split the millstone with his chisel. I am thinking he is late Edo.

It's a nice old netsuke, Thomas. It looks like someone along the way decided to mount him to the top of something - hence the screw hole next to the himotoshi. I hate when that happens. Nice find though!
Happy hunting!

Hi Judy
Thanks! It’s not actually a hole but a circle and part of the design since milestones have holes in the center and the lacquer is still intact

I tried to catch the reflection because it did look like a hole and attached a picture of the matching “hole” on the top of the millstone :)
