Hi Ronn, only just seen these for the first time. Very difficult to judge from photos alone. The first one gave me a good feeling. The signature says Gyokko 玉光. The second one started off feeling good, and the signature looks like Minkoku 民谷. The third one, however, gives me the impression of being designed to look old. Once this inner alarm went off, all kinds of questions bubbled up. Is No.2 with the strange offset hole and signature also of the same ilk? In fact, did you buy these off the same person or store? (You did not give us any background information.)

Many collectors are not too crazy about netsuke carved on a base. I'm not either but recently posted one of mine in ivory from late 18th C. with a scholar and his horse. Are you attracted to this type and were there other similar ones available from the same seller when you acquired these three?
Like Piers, I dont know why I didnt see your post when written. Might you have saved it as a draft and just posted it today?

Alan, I found this under 'unanswered posts' and chose it almost at random.

Thanks, Piers. I should use that button more often.
