Carvers ask each other the question a lot about the techniques of green-dyed ivory. I think I even read something in print recently about it being 'lost knowledge'. The truth is, there are lots of recipes for dyeing ivory green in old Western trades manuals and 'household hints' books. They either rely on a copper salt (like verdigris) and other chemicals to create a complex that colors the ivory or else a combination of indigo and various yellow dyes to stain it.
