Agreed Alan. My statement had nothing to do with the hair. I'm not so sure about the age of the material. Without handling, I won't argue that point further though.

Seems it might be the one mentioned in the MCI. Don't know much more about the artist. Maybe a very late 19th, or early 20th, century carver from asakusa?

Today I went again to the Tikotin museum, saw two very nice exhibitions: New prints (Shin hanga) and Small is beautiful. The beautiful small items were netsuke, inro, pipe cases, tsuba, lacquer boxes. Here are some of them:

Thanks for these updates Alex. I like the ashinaga tenaga pair. It's good to be given a glimpse into other places on the planet.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for sharing those images and the update.

I find the Stag Kan'u figure most interesting. Looks like it may be from Kyoto lineage.

Could the hand be related to this guy published in Davey?

New discovery in a cultural centre not too far from Tel Aviv. The whole 'Dankner collection' is on permanent display there. About 100 netsuke and 20 okimono are very nicely placed in a purpose built display cabinet. Personally, I did not think that they were top quality, but still mostly quite nice.

This is the link to the whole collection:

And a few photos of nice items:

Thanks, Alex. Certainly worth a visit if in the area.
