Reason: this thread was moved from the Bekkanko topic with examples that Alex posted.

The third one is a very sweet and sentimental scene of two small happy brothers with puppy, and monkey in the bottom.

karakos
A late addition to this thread but I have a nice netsuke of 4 karakos playing (pic below). It's unsigned so I know nothing of who may have carved it but I think it depicts the children playing music for a Shishimai dance - any and all thoughts most welcome.
Many thanks,
G.

Its a cute piece from second half 19th century I would say. We only see 3 of the 4 karako with 2 types of drums 0and the shishigashira (head). Please post a couple more views. I've seen similar by one of the later Tomochikas.

Many thanks for your thoughts Alan - please see attached photos for different angles of the piece - I particularly like the inclusion of the uchiwa on the bottom. Do you have any pictures / photos of the netsuke you mention?
Best,
G.

I don't have photos I'm afraid.
The uchiwa was a good solution to covering an otherwise "busy" bottom that would have had jutting feet and other small parts
