Wonderful piece!

Congratulation szwang, you got a classic. In my experience having a few of those budget's overlimit will make your life much nicer forever and the hole in your pocket will heal....eventually.

Some wonderful pieces and finds for last year.
I found two low end pieces at auctions other than our supportive ones.
One is a cockerel, the symbol of my birth year. I haven't won a good quality one as yet at auction so I decided to buy this one as a place holder. Although crude and somewhat damaged it feels good to hold and I'm happy with it.

The boar was a gamble that I believe paid off. I received it today and am happy with it.

Happy New year and year of the Cockerel!

A very acceptable placeholder I would say.

Yes, It was advertised as hornbill and I believe it is. My only netsuke of this material. A good small find, I think, at about 40mm long from snout to tail.

My favourite finds in 2016 were actually a couple of books: a very good copy of the original Netsuke by Albert Brockhaus, printed in Leipzig, in 1905, and (since my German is somewhat limited :( ), a concise English translation by M.F. Watty, printed in 1969. Here are their first pages:
