Karako Kawazu throw (leg entanglement throw) in which the apparently disadvantaged wrestler surprisingly completes the maneuver, becoming the victor.

The winner is the boy in the air.
Description of sumo techniques: Kawazugake(throw): backward lift counter trip against tsuridashi, tsuriotoshi or sotogake; in self-defense, a rikishi will wrap a leg around the back of his opponent's leg. At the same time he puts the arm on the same side of his around his opponent's neck, forcing both to fall backwards, and the counter-attacker lands on top.

The Kawazu throw (named after the Sumo wrestler Kawazu) is often seen at Netsuke / Okimono.
Here it is presented by two Karakos, which I have not seen before.

I am afraid yours will still need to practice a little, Klaus! His right foot went in the wrong direction and therefore did not quite hook the opponent's leg, nor he is catching the opponent's arm with his left hand. He is flying backwards, no doubt in my mind...

Just let us know how it went, as I give them at least 50/50 chances at this point. :D

Here's my latest. An old used netsuke of a Karako pushing a Daruma doll by Hozan.

Still Karako is my main subject. Here are two nice ones which joined my kindergarten not so long ago:

Vlad, let's say 80:20. Holding the arm is not necessary.
The foot lever does however with the heel and not with the point, also quite well.
I am not a Sumo wrestler, although I would soon be qualified by weight.

Alex, very nice Netsuke.
I like particularly pieces, where one can see the enthusiasm of the children while discovering natural science phenomena.
At your piece it is a gyro, which arises on the shaft when turning.

Thank you, Klaus ! I like your young sumo wrestlers, and I also might qualify at least as ozeki, if not yokozuna, as far as my weight is concerned ;)

Finally, with the kind help of Martyn, signature / attribution probably solved: the signature is Masayuki (of Asakusa) in script form:

Alex, that's a really cute piece. For me, the seals don't match up that well. :?:
