Hi Piers,
Hope I didn't but in--just wanted to show that you were correct in thinking the last kanji to be one of the artistic interpretations of "Sai" , and not a Kao. Like so many things in Laz, there is conflicting information, and there certainly is in this case--nothing very concrete there. As always, you are a consistently huge help here. Don't know what the netsuke community would do without you!

Judy, your kind words are really appreciated. :x It's a minefield out there, but kind of enjoyable stepping delicately through it, or trying to even. There is a great team on this site, with so much knowledge, and each contributing member is rare and precious. :)
