shishi signature

Postby onimh » Sun May 01, 2016 4:13 pm

I've been searching this signature for some time.
Originally relayed to me as Chigayuki but that doesn't seem to fit.
YoshiNobu perhaps but no netsukeshi with that name that I've come up with.
Help would be appreciated.

Didn't see any under Tokunobu, Tokushin, or Atsunobu but I'll take another look.

Hello onimh,

Like chonchon I would read it as Tokunobu or Tokushin, but found nothing on my books about such a artist. Perhaps it has again nothing to do with the carvers name, but then is the question why in a reserve. Or perhaps it could be that the artist is not yet listed.

Translated it means trustfulness. I searched via google and found on first place a link to the forum out of the past, it looks that somebody had engaged in such a reading, but unfortunately I could not open this thread. Perhaps it has something to do with the new forum.

Here a excerpt of google search:

running wild boar and shishi - International Netsuke Society ...
https://forums.netsuke.org/.../running-wild-boar-and... - Diese Seite übersetzen
26.04.2014 - Incidentally Tokushin is part of some old Chinese advice for life guidance ( Analects of Confucius) 子日、篤信好学、守死善道。危邦不入、乱邦不 ...

Perhaps it has something to do with that what I can read and in relation of the subject of your nice Shishi.

KR

Hi Thomas,

we thank you for your helpfulness and your search into the signature of Matthew's (onimh's) Shishi.

The Google link that you received searching for "Tokushin" referred to an "old forum" post : this post is in the Preserved Historical Forum.
Our Lounge Administrator Martyn Jones was able to successfully transfer the content of the old forum - tens of thousands of posts and images - into the new Lounge. This content is available for consultation to members of INS in the Members area. (although a part of it is also viewable in the Public area.)

Coincidently, the post that you quote is about the same Shishi netsuke by Matthew :)

A couple of years ago, he asked about this signature and received some tips among which the Tokushin that you researched.
We hope the mystery of this signature can be resolved this time ...
