Hi guys,

this is my first post and I am in need of assistance with a signature on a netsuke of a puppy. The second character reads "Tsugu" but I cant read the first. Would really appreciate some help.

I picked this up from the auction yesterday.
It was listed as Saiminsai but I believe it is Shominsai (Chikamasa Shominsai- K263,299,497 pg 328 Lazarnick).
If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it (as always).

The first character is either read Matsu or Sho depending on context. In this case Shomin 松民 is how it starts and that looks like a kao or one of the varieties of -sai that were used.

So I'm mostly correct. I just need another trip to the library (Lazarnick) to see what Shomin looks like!

More help required everyone. 3 signatures I cant decipher, one of a TANUKI the other of a cluster of MUSHROOMS and another of an OKAME mask.

Masanaga looks best to me for the Tanuki (I'm often wrong however).
The other two have me stumped.
