Baku on the far left and Hakutaku next, according to Hokusai. (Hope you can see them.)

Clearly the Hokusai Baku is the inspiration for a Netsuke in the upcoming Bonhams/Katchen sale. It looks like a Mammoth.

This Hokusai-Hakutaku is further confirmation that in the Netsuke world some mythical creatures are misnamed.

the Hakutaku (three eyes on the side of the body) is falsely called Kudan.

the horned Shishi (partly similar to a kirin but with lion's feet) is falsely named Hakutaku.

the real Kudan resembles a cow with a human face.

I see your point Klaus.

Even the end of the snout on the print is very similar to the snout end of the Netsuke.
