Thank you Klaus, for showing this netsuke. What an action packed depiction! I think it funny that the fish monger seems to be laughing at the Squid/octopus, and taking the situation very humorously, while the squid is really angry, and even looks as though he might just win the battle!

I was surprised and delighted to find my small flat-fish there.
It is a sweet living piece that looks frightened and sad with its glas eyes.

After the fierce and controversial discussion in this thread about real fish skin and fish skin style, I venture the claim: It is real fish skin.
The fins are designed with thin inlaid silver wires.
Had a lacquer artist managed to imitate this fish skin, he would have also designed the fins in lacquer.
