I join Gleeson in thanking all of you for the continuing education on lacquer. I, for one, had no idea, and thought lacquer was only something found on Inro and other things, but not on nestuke. I shall keep an eye out in my wanderings for lacquer netsuke henceforth!

Here is our little red lacquer Karako holding a scroll. It is very lightweight and stands 4.3cm tall. The himotoshi is a pass-through under the cloth piece that hangs down his back (don't know the name for this piece of clothing).

Tengu, that frog is most impressive indeed the way the wear is affecting the Negoro Lacquer ~ very clever treatment of a very familiar frog . . . Image

The more you handle your frog, the more he will change and reveal his coloring.

Great piece, Tengu. I'm accustomed to seeing the red and black layers of negoro lacquer but yours has a yellow component. Does that technique have a different name?

Another Negoro lacquer netsuke. Think it might be Jobun (attribution), if so, rare if not unique for this carver. Sorry for the photos, difficult to get the color right. Piece definitely shows wear.

And here is my ubiquitous negoro lacquer 'Sake Drinker', minus most of the original lacquer. I wonder who might have carved all of these?

SC, our Journal Editor bought the identical sake drinker with face buried in the cup at one of the past conventions. There do seem to be a few around and all I've seen have extensive wear.

A most unusual psychedelic looking mask! The color pattern almost matches my mask by Sukekazu. I wonder if that was intentional?
