material of Daruma

Postby NetsukeManiac » Sun Nov 11, 2012 1:46 pm

Here we have some sort of tooth or tusk depicting Daruma. The length is 5.9 cm with a cross section of 1.6 x 2.6 cm. What could the material be?I'll post a couple more unusual netsuke/sagemono pieces in the AM.SC

It looks more like some sort of tooth to me but it's hard to explain the deep discoloration of the top. Tengu, are you looking at the swarthy face when you say bamboo root? I don't think it is. Certainly looks like some sort of ivory/tooth with a small nerve canal at the very top middle.
