Yes, Stan "gold". Guess my smartphone felt "golf" was more appropriate. They were illegal to own for a time. Ivory still isnt. But my father-in-law predicted over 40 years ago that it would become illegal to sell it. But... this from the ruling may be of interest:

"We agree that forensic testing is not necessarily required. Provenance may be determined through a detailed history of the item, including but not limited to, family photos, ethnographic fieldwork, art history publications, or other information that authenticates the article and assigns the work to a known period of time or, where possible, to a known artist or craftsman. A qualified appraisal or another method, including using information in catalogs, price lists, and other similar materials that document the age by establishing the origin of the item, can also be used.
An appraisal using appropriate professional expertise based on the best available information at that time that is later determined to be incorrect would not subject that appraiser to legal action under this rule. We expect an appraiser or other individual to be able to act in good faith in his or her professional capacity."

When anyone obtains a CITES under these rules, I'd like to know about it.

The following is a link to USFWS' Memo providing guidance for interpreting the new Regulations which will go into effect July 6, 2016, in the form of Questions and Answers, which some may find helpful:
