On in Kiev, Ukraine right now. Some Imperial objects related to the Meiji Emperor.

Quite a good Netsuke about 15 seconds into the video.

90+ objects altogether, and Sugimura Satoshi, a Makie lacquer artist from Nara, shows his skills.

Love the subject of the Carp, fighting his way to swim upstream, where, in Old Japan, it was believed the Carp would be rewarded for his tenacity by becoming a dragon!

Yes, very true, and how do you get a whole waterfall and a carp swimming up it into a Netsuke???!!!

This happened to come up on the NHK news here in Japan. As luck would have it a quick search found that the clip was still avalable.

Piers, Thank you for sharing this.  It is a lovely carving-the wood has such a rich patina.  Sure wish I spoke Japanese!

The announcer only said that there were "Netsuke, among other things...", so you didn't really miss anything, Judy. :)
