European Chapter Meeting - National Museum of Scotland

Postby Oishii » Sat Jul 22, 2017 8:15 am

Yesterday the European Chapter was invited - courtesy of Rosemary Bandini :x - for a handling session at the National Museum
of Scotland in Edinburgh.
The members were allowed to choose some pieces they would like to see from the online catalogue of the Museum.
It proved to be another excellent and educational trip ! Unfortunately we could not attend, but we had a fly on the wall ;-)
Here are -allegedly- some of the pieces that were admired ... (attending members, please correct where necessary)
Looking forward to seeing pictures and report from our members who were there !

- ivory, a rat eating a nut, signed, by Okatomo, 19th century
- wood, two rats, signed, by Senkoku
- ivory, a tiger with a cub beneath its forepaws and another on its back, unsigned.
- ivory, a crouching cat with a butterfly on its back

- ivory, Xiwangmu (J: Seiobo) with a peach branch and a basket of peaches
- ivory, a Dutchman standing and holding a dog, signed, by Shumin

Many thanks for the report, Jan. You have a sharp-eyed fly there!
How many people went to Edinburgh for this, I wonder?

I think there were 9 of us and the Netsuke on offer were great and well worth the journey. I really enjoyed meeting some more new Netsuke people who couldn't make to Cologne. Below are a few of my favourites from the visit.

Thanks for the reports and photos!

Sadly I could not make this one, holiday was already booked, coinciding with the same week of the handling session. Please do share more photos :)

I'll attach a few more later as it won't let me do it from my mobike right now. I'll let others post their favourites. It was a great day.
