I just wanted to add my thanks for an amazing festival. I was only able to come on the Friday but was warmly welcomed and had a great time. I am new to netsuke, having only learned about the art form last august and I learned more in one day than I have in the last 9 months! Martyn, your organisation of the events was excellent and many thanks for all your hard work putting it all together - feel free to PM me if you want to meet up locally.
The British Museum handling session was simply stunning - I will never own such quality pieces so it is a great privilege to hold and feel them (shame about the gloves!). The afternoon at Neil's exhibition was an eye-opener and many thanks Neil for your expertise (and the beer). The evening session was similarly enlightening and it was nice to meet Neil and Max in the flesh.
All round a fantastic time and lovely to meet so many nice people (special mention goes to Gopi who took me under his wing).
See you all soon and thanks again,

Yes it was a well organized event. Thanks again to all.
Maybe one occurrence illustrates my feeling about this weekend the best.
Sunday evening late, in a pub, after the ringing bell, two girls came to us.
Seeing such a diverse group, they wondered how we all met. (yes there was drinking involved, on their side too.)
After we all recovered from Gopi’s quick reply: "sperm bank reunion!" we explained about the weekend and taught them about netsuke.
They were right, it is wonderful to be part of such a diverse group. Very different people brought together by art. (Our tables represented half the globe!) Loved it.

What a weekend! I just wanted to post my thanks to all those involved in the organisation and hosting of the meeting in London. It was an excellent learning opportunity for veterans and novices alike. It was great to finally put faces to names freaquently seen contributing on the forum. The whole weekend felt like it ran very smoothly, even with the obligatory technical hitches that only prolonged our joy. The handling session at the British Museum was a delight and Max Rutherston's interview and talk that evening were interesting and enlightening. Neil's exhibition the following day was excellent with some fantastic pieces for sale which were much discussed and handled amoungst the numerous attendees. The Lempertz contemporary exhibition drew a modest amount of interest including long time collectors, curious passers by and local Japanophiles who had got wind of the pre sale show. Neil ended the weekend with his talk on double meanings which helped to bring a whole new dimension of netsuke into focus and his interview of the wonderful Jay Hopkins. Overall a very interesting weekend which has quadrupled my enthusiam for the japanese art of netsuke.

I thought i would leave everyone with some pictures from the british museum collection.

Thanks, Adam, for the images and report on the gathering in London. It only increases my disappointment on missing it! Sounds like a great time for all. Thank you for the images as well. The lovely bird still is my favorite of all the netsuke that I have seen images of. A lovely carving with a great patina and spirit! So happy you had a great time. Martyn always puts his heart and soul into everything he does, and we are all very fortunate that he is so willing to make such a huge effort for these gatherings.
