Thank you Dave! The lanterns are so ancient, I would love to seem them in person. Will you please tell us a bit about the lantern lighting ceremony and what are the reasons for this ceremony?

That looks amazing Dave. I visited this shrine last year and was in awe of the lanterns and the ancient trees growing in the shrine. Unfortunately I did not have the privileged of seeing the the Lanterns illuminated. It must be a wonderful and atmospheric festival to attend.

Thanks, Dave, for showing these images. I have never been to Japan, and look forward to someday seeing it all in person. Until then, I am grateful for the images from you and Piers!

Great photos Dave - how I miss Japan. Why do I have to live so far away. It's not easy (or cheap) for me to visit like Europe.

I am thinking you will miss these types of cultural events when you move :(

Dave, are you sure you want to move?
I'll miss seeing your photos.
