Small netsuke/ charms on a ring?

Postby AndreaNY » Wed Jul 26, 2017 2:49 pm

Hello everyone! My name is Andrea and I am a anthropologist doing research on Japan's influence on the novelty collectibles market. I am currently looking at the origin of charms and their historical connection to Japanese craftsmanship and netsuke carvings.

During my research I have come across these collections of hand carved charms on rings. Some Japanese auction sites have listed them as "small netsuke" but I am not sure if that is the correct Japanese name for them. I was hoping someone here might be able to help identify the correct name, era, and use for such charms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! -- Andrea
