I, as always, will greatly appreciate clues on how to read the following two signatures.

The one on the camel seems to read Kanaga, but I wasn't able to find such artist. Is there possibly an alternative reading?

The other one looks somewhat like Gyokei to me, or does it?Image

The one on the right says Kansui 寛水 but the upside-down one on the left is hard to see and may take some thought.

Size is something.

Piers, thank you, you are the best! Of course, Kansui!

Vlad, if you won these two at auction, Congrats. the Kansui is a good find. I saw it out there, but I believe the auction was already over. It is very different from my Kansui, but I have seen many of his ivory netsuke that have this same nice flare. The other signature is not clear from this image, and you would need to wait until you receive it to get a better image. it looks to me like debased or variant characters, but Piers is the expert, and I only play. Good luck. I like the camel very much.

Thank you, Judy. I agree with everything you said and yes, I won it for my wife because of the camel. She also wanted among a few others the whale similar to yours (you must've seen it too), but we were traveling that day and did leave very conservative bids. No cigars with all other absentee bids we have left for her.

It is so nice that she is interested too, and wanting a few of her own. Win will never feel that way-I am on my own with my collection..

Judy, think of the money you are saving not having to satisfy the tastes of TWO collectors in the family.

Well, this is true, Alan, but it does dampen my enjoyment of them as well.

But you have all your netsuke friends here to share with, Judy. Plus all the interactions with members of INS at functions you've attended. There's truly a wealth of love and sharing from us to help make up for being a lone family member (many are) who collects netsuke. And there's also the joy you bring others all over the world in sharing your knowledge!
