Re: Euronetsuke Fest 2018: 11th - 13th May 2018

We have a member flying in on the Friday morning who can only make the afternoon event. They have a space on the morning event. If anyone is willing to swap their afternoon space to the morning please PM me. Thanks.

Re: Euronetsuke Fest 2018: 11th - 13th May 2018

Hi all, As it goes, I enquired at both venues for a substitute event as soon as I received news regarding the Bonham's postponement. The challenge for any museum is the ability to offer staff on a Saturday. They run cut down services for the public on a weekend. We also have to consider the inclusiv...

Re: Recent work

Hi Adam, Congratulations. The work and your personal development are impressive. It displays sensitivities in the tradition of Japanese carving. The motivation behind the work also appeals to my tastes. It possesses a meaningful emotion I personally relate to. The Himotoshi is a very nice addition t...

Official message from Bonham's regarding the May sale being postponed; Bonham’s Japanese Art Department would like to notify you that the sale of the Julius and Arlette Katchen Collection of Fine Netsuke: Part III has moved from May 17th to early November 2018 and hopes this causes no inconvenience....

Re: Cloisonné in Sagemono

I'll see if I can find some examples of the last couple. Thanks Clive. Our typical western way of applying a categorisation to a Japanese technique has the potential to cause an underappreciation of the object we are studying. Sharing the other examples, when you get the time, would be very interes...

Re: Subject of this piece

No one has mentioned the red and possibly green (the photos are a little blurry to determine) ink used in the engraved decoration of the clothing. This is often an indicator, for me at least, of spurious origin. Thoughts? I understand your concern regarding the potential spurious origin of red / gre...

Euronetsuke website - NEW

Some of you pointed out the Euronetsuke website was down. Rosemary Bandini was in the process of launching a new version of the site. The new site is now live - http://www.euronetsuke.eu/ It's useful to keep an eye on the Events Calendar section, for up to date info on Euronetsuke events and further...

Re: pipe case addition

This inro, signed Koma Kyuhaku, is of Geese and Windblown Grasses Before a Rising Moon perhaps referencing Mushashi Plain. It includes a rare technique, zogan-nuri (simulated cloisonné) for the grasses. What a stunning inro. Thank you for sharing! I have not heard of zogan-nuri technique before. Af...

Re: Subject of this piece

Hi I recently came across this nice looking netsuke. The carving and the condition looks pretty good. However the subject looks unfamiliar to me. Would really appreciate if you could share your thoughts on what the subject could be, for sure it is not a very common one in my limited experience. Man...
