Re: Flying Dragon

Hi Roaux! If I ever saw a dragon, I would like it to be a friendly one! There is enough scary in this world of ours, we need to accentuate the positive! I like your happy dragon! I especially like his swirly antlers/horns? Thanks for sharing him with us!

Re: Happy Birthday MakkaPakka

Hi Rob! Glad you had a relaxing day yesterday. Birthdays are great! You don't have to feel guilty about just relaxing or eating cake, or going to a play---or whatever! It's your birthday after all! Glad it was a good one!

Re: Ceramic netsuke

Ryan, I really enjoyed seeing all your Bizen ware netsuke. My favorite of all of them is the Tengu, which seems to be a more rare subject matter for ceramics-- only because I see so many Darumas, etc , but don't recall seeing Tengu before. I really like him. There are many ceramic and porcelain piec...

Re: Van Ham - The handling session

Wow John! That is even more ludicrous packing than Amazon which is way oversized as well. You must have had to look and look before you found that little guy! I like him very much by the way. His face is somewhat reminiscent of the old rat catchers I have seen- perhaps same school or carver? He is c...

Re: Banko - Tapestry Ware

Piers, the handle is on the one that is pictured in the antique book I have-- it is not mine sorry to say. Mine has no handle- must have deteriorated and was removed. I have to find someone who can attach a handle to mine, but am almost afraid to, as it is so thin and fragile! But Oh! The handle mak...

Banko - Tapestry Ware

During the past couple of years, I have been enjoying an occasional purchase of porcelain and other antique vessels. Many years ago, I found a piece of tapestry ware in the form of a six sided bud vase. At the time I didn't know what it was but was attracted to the designs and the pattern in the pie...

Re: Van Ham - The handling session

Agree, Alan. When I walk into an antique shop and find a netsuke for a fraction of what it's worth--I say it's just my turn and thank the God above for this piece of earthly gratification! Martyn, Your thoughts are right on - carefully thought through. When my children were growing up, I had a "...

Re: Hotei 布袋

Thank You, Piers, for this information. I will change my notes on it. I would like to think the silver lining has always been there. My netsuke are locked up right now, as I was traveling over Christmas. When I get them back, I want to check under the silver lining (it falls out readily) and see if ...
