Maybe somebody who feels differently might point out any indicator of greater age that I might have missed :geek: It is not easy to find reasons for a higher age, especially if it is rare, unsigned, modele...

Re: Fish & Other Aquatic Creatures as Netsuke Subjects

In my opinion, this eBay seller is very thorough and tried very precise and restrained description.
My dating is consistent with that of Reinhard.
Piers, what´s your opinion?

.... even at an auction with shunga (carvings, woodblock prints etc) it would be the right tool for banging the pieces.

Re: Shunga discussion - different grades

Some time ago I saw a very similar piece at Sagemonoya. The description was Shunga and I thought to myself: The original object in the hand had broken off and the new carving should possibly increase the value. 1443-003.jpg My Ebay seller gave the right explanation. This person really lived. He is t...

Re: Netsuke or Okimono?

"Sashimi pieces" describes this type of Netsuke also very good.
On a white porcelain plate (gesso) you can see different colors:
- different red from the fish
- Green from the wasabi paste
- Blue colored radish
The imagination knows no limits.

Re: When the cat's away the rats dance

Think this rat is a female version like the Perbody model.
The signature on the Pebody rat is also Okatomo.

Re: When the cat's away the rats dance

Two unsigned rats in similar position.
The first from the Edo period, Kyoto school around 1800.
The second from the Meiji period around 1900, probably Osaka school.
