Re: Favourite finds of 2016

In the thread with the TOPIC PIPECASES I posted a Taishin pipecase with the design of Oku No Hosomichi. I do not want to mix up pipecases with inro. Searching an inro thread I found this one to continue with another example of the discussed motif in another art form. On this inro we have of course ...

Re: pipe case addition

OIZURU , Alan, it is not a bag, more a box, but not really a box. When I was young and living in a village with farmers around, I remember they used a similar container to carry things. In German we call this "suitcase" KIEPE. The dictionary gives me the english word as PANNIER (new for m...

Re: pipe case addition

OKU NO HOSOMICHI , continuing with Ikeda Taishin I want to introduce the Oku No Hosomichi. This is the title of Basho's work of a collection of poems. The title translates as The Narrow Roads to the Deep North . When Basho's work came to general notice, the topic was chosen by arttists of various k...

Re: Ashtray netsuke

Sorry Piers, ashtray netsuke are your speciality. And this one shoulld obviously better rest in your house to feel comfortable. With me it is a loner, crying for the home country. Size matters, as you point out in your posts, and this netsuke's size in diameter is a heavy 7,8 cm. It could have been ...

Re: pipe case addition

No reply on my last post means, I have to do it myself We discussed Zeshin and his offsprings. I think it is worth to move to Ikeda Taishin, who worked with Zeshin in the same workshop under the same roof. This pipecase has the design of Yam Leaves. Both parts with dark ishime ground, rim of silver...

Re: pipe case addition

I wanted to continue with Lacquer , but preparing Asia Week, I see the offer of another London dealer with a pipecase in a set with a pouch by the famous Meiji artist NOHARA TEIMEI, whose alternativ reading is NOHARA SADAAKI (1868 - 1912). For the first time I saw art works of TEIMEI in the Collecti...

Re: pipe case addition

Lacquer masters in connection with the name syllable KO , we had some pipecases shown in the Forum by Koshin. He is well known and many data about him given in the literature. Once in a while certain dealers offer his work (actually we can see one in London these days). I came about another artist ...

Re: homage to father and son

Question for MOD Team Klaus came in with a Tessai Mask, which he found in Shinmonzen Street, after a previous poster mentioned that Antique Shop Street in Kyoto. I jumped on the train because of the shown Tessai Mask/Head. Wouldn't it be worth to start a new threat beginning with Klaus' post and ca...

Re: pipe case addition

Hello Doug, thank you very much for answering my question so fast. Clematis . I compared the blossom and also the buds on the pipecase with images shown on google. No doubt about it = Clematis. From your personal data given in the Forum I see, that you live in Bloomington, the city's first syllable ...
