Re: Favorite Finds of 2017

I'm not very familiar with horse bits but I can't see one being used as the himotoshi on these Koku kiseruzutsu. It looks more to me like the fitting at the top of an abumi (stirrup). I will need to get a quick pic on my phone and post from there what I refer to. This one will be a solid attachment...

Re: pipe case addition

This thread has gone dormant, so thought I'd post a recent acquisition. A tsuikoku (carved black lacquer) pipe case ........ Re: Van Ham - The handling session

Every time I see this thread it gives me a huge smile.. :) There is something else remarkable in Gabor's judgement, which is obviously overlooked here. The price paid at Van Ham is surely supersensational, no doubt about it. Gabor rated the quality of this netsuke decades ago as not supersensationa...

Re: Tips for visiting Japan

What netsuke lovers should know , this museum displays contemporary netsuke art. May be 1 to 3 % are non contemporary. However, the museum building is worth a visit for everyone, up and down the wooden stairs (mind your head), all floors of tatami of course, with a movie showing carving techniques ...
