Re: boy mounting a horse

There might be another Kanji after 東陽? (guessing 斎 or 彫 or a kakihan? )

May I ask why everybody agreed on this is by Rantei?

IMHO the signature NOR the style is by Rantei... Doesn't the signature reads clearly Sosai(藻斎)with a kakihan?

Re: Favourite finds of 2016

Wow, Lub you really surprise me every time you post something from your collection, I still remember the first time I saw your Kangyoku zodiac in Hornbill. But honestly I've never seen a rat in this style of gifu and Nagoya. I have an ivory tanuki bearing this similar "tomokazu", but the s...

Re: Please help identifying the inscription and the artist of a mask netsuke of Okame !

Hi Pascale, the signature reads 孝斋 (kosai), with a kakihan, which is a personal artistic signature pattern. Possibly it's by 壽壽木 孝斎, read as Suzuki Kosai (MCI P.390, N&IA P.670). Like many other artists I see Kosai used several slightly different Kakihans. The one on your mask is illustrated on ...

Re: Favourite finds of 2016

I want to share this cute rat on chestnut netsuke, lot 2326 from Van Ham. Haven't received it yet but still... images3.lottissimo.jpg The price was a little over my limit, but couldn't resist... It reminds me of the extraordinary rat with chestnut sold at Bonhams few years ago by Goho. The general s...

Re: Kyoto Masanao wooden abalone at 8.7K

Yes Vlad, I think it is a genuine piece by kyoto Masanao. Look at the realistic movement of the tortured body, as if it's speaking something. People say KM rats are superb because it is truly alive "can even hear it snoring" I quote from a text I've read. But this one I think is an even be...
