Re: Euronetsuke Fest 2018: 11th - 13th May 2018

Sorry, have not taken any photos. But I would like to thank Martyn for organizing an amazing event, Max & Neil Davey for a very informative and entertaining evening, Neil Holton for a very good and humorous lecture, and of course Lisa for helping us in the gallery and for ‘cooking’ such deliciou...

Re: Latest find to my collection

As an illustration of the genius of Ikkan, here is a photo of his amazing Kirin.

Clive used it in his ‘workshop’. I wish he restarted it ...

Re: Latest find to my collection

Thanks for showing them, Dave. I agree with you ;) Here is a very good thread, mainly about shojo, from 2016. There are a few VERY NICE netsuke, including an Ikkan shojo posted by Klaus, who has an amazing collection of them (and other netsuke - I had the pleasure and honour to see most of his colle...

Re: Latest find to my collection

Lovely shojo, Dave, with nice facial expression and amazing details, as one would expect of master Ikkan. Could you please show photos of the back and bottom as well. Thanks !

Re: Latest find to my collection

Hi again Henrik, This is the description of Rosemary Bandini about shojo: 'In Japanese folklore shojo were renowned for their log orangey-red hair. They lived by the sea, passing their time drinking sake and sleeping off its effects. Old records tell of it being killed so its hair could be used to m...

Re: Latest find to my collection

Hi Henrik, I believe that it depicts a sleeping shojo. If you do a search for shojo on the forum, you will find plenty of information. It looks to me that he / she is leaning on a huge sakazuki (sake wide cup). Here is a photo of a sakazuki for you to decide: Sake cup.jpg For comparison, here is a s...

Re: Advice on Repair

Clive is probably one of the best netsuke and okimono restorers, well known on the forum.
That’s what I meant...

Apologies, since apparently you have not heard about him.

Re: Spring 2018 Journals arrived

I have the feeling that you are right, Alan, about the legs being pulled outward with the loop as in the photo. However, if the loop was done the same way, just at the front side of the netsuke, I think that the legs would be pulled inward, towards the obi.

And regardless, beautiful netsuke :)

Hi again, Gopi,

Check on http://www.walks.com.

They have excellent guided walking tours. Choose the day and / or the subject. We have done lots of walks with them, utterly enjoyed all of them.

Have fun !
