Re: Is this a rakan or a Sennin?
Hi Walter, as Piers suggests, it would be useful if we can have some 360 images around the belt area? I've managed to acquire some closer images of the model shared in the article on the previous page of this thread. This model is from the same circle of hands, and it appears uncontroversial to sugg...

Re: Is this a rakan or a Sennin?
I presumed that is the object Piers was questioning Alan. It does look like a sword handle but surely not regulation kit for a Rakan......... Hi John, I held back posting because of the lack of any distinctive handle. As Rosey points out no obvious sword. Additionally, without we find the sword som...

Re: Is this a rakan or a Sennin?
Hi Rosey, Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise on this subject. The quality of the okimono you have just shared is breathtaking. Moreover, the model subject is a perfect match. I scold myself for the sloppy approach in my opening reply. I should have taken the time to explain where ...

Re: Is this a rakan or a Sennin?
Dear friends, thanks for your warm welcome and expert opinions. In the meantime I myself did some further research and ended up by a very similar piece in the Bushell-collection: "familiar and unfamiliar netsuke", p. 104, nr. 84. Many thanks and best regards, Walter. Dear Walter - you see...

Re: Is this a rakan or a Sennin?
Hi and welcome to the forum Walter.
IMO this is neither rakan or sennin. In other similar examples some debate exists around the exact subject on whether it is kobo daishi, priest, monk, rakan or holy man. Sennin is definitely discounted.
It's Edo school work.
Have you been collecting long?

Alison - I think you've acquired many new fans from your article. I know I've already said it on another thread - but I really hope to see more articles from you :) I'm not sure if this example adds anything to the discussion - but here I attach another model from this Wakayama circle of hands - thi...
