Re: Anraku(sai) netsuke

Hi Curt, Here is an interesting example, signed Anraku. Note again the same specific stain we attribute to Anraku (click on image for larger view). canvas.png For any INS members, there is a thread some 7 pages long with examples of work, and discussions about this carver. There is also the full art...

Re: A little tiger

Hi Curt, Worth noting the tiger bottom right in this extract. Work of the first Hakuryu (and age noticeable even though a poor image); hakuryu_GL43863050.jpg Here is another example of Hakuryu I work; 00163618.jpg Here an example of work considered Hakuryu II (click on image for larger version). Re: New Member - Thank You Martyn Jones!

Welcome to the Lounge Curt :) I'm certainly not worthy of the praise  Actually members do interchange between the FB group and the Lounge. It's really just a social choice of how one decides to post that day. No one is infallible, but we have a great little community of experts that can help yo...

Re: Ikkosai monkey group question

Thanks for digging that out Klaus! I thought Fuld refers to a group of three as a whole (denoted by a comma) , rather than an adult and a group of three infants. Monkey, Young, Group of 3-, Seated Still if that is the same reference Fuld refers to () , then it answers that question. Coincidentally t...

Re: Ikkosai monkey group question

The index card for this piece gives us quite a bit of information (marked in green) which you could use to further your research : * the artist is called "Toun 3" by Fuld * his family name is Saito Itaro * the school is Edo (Tokyo) * he is a pupil of Shousai Joryu * the kanji for this sig...

Re: Ikkosai monkey group question

I also want to know if by the same hand why do the signatures look so different It's a good question Jill. I suspect I will get flamed for the following comment; we should apply artistic license to signatures. ⋅ Some netsuke were undoubtedly produced in a workshop scenario. Signatures may...

Re: Ikkosai monkey group question

This is the list from Davey with the artists signing Ikkosai. The ones marked in green are the ones that have the same kanji as the pieces discussed. Also this Ikkosai (Saito) sometimes signed 一光, although no example here in the MCI; 051215879.jpg Then to confuse matters further Kojitsu Saito somet...
