Re: one of the first purchased

Re: one of the first purchased

Still hard to make out, but you have it in hand. Your observation in the 3D. I can make out two, rather than one, raised objects. So your flower heads probably the better suggestions :) always harder to observe images via a phone.

Re: Subject Quiz

Does anyone else see a bat, rather than a rat, emerging from the foot of this piece?
Screen Shot 2018-01-29 at 15.51.35.png

The artist seems very capable to display anatomically correct rats elsewhere (e.g. shoulder). It may just be the Angle of the photo. Jan do you have a side shot of the piece?

Re: one of the first purchased

An elegant sennin in that style Piers - Nice hunting. I especially like the facial and hair features on this one. Pleasing patina. Agree on your attribution. Can't quite make it out from photos, but might that be a reishi sceptre in his left hand? Sorry but I have no tips on cleaning it up. I don't ...

Re: Inro of silk brocade in tree

Nothing wrong with any of that, but I do not think anything is caught up in the tree, merely tied up in the middle. Under the cherry trees many a new love blossoms with the spring, Just reporting what I'm seeing regarding it entangled (looped) over the tree. Sorry Piers, screen shot pants. Out and ...

Re: Inro of silk brocade in tree

Guilty :D

Japanese art, and the cultural aspect in which they sometimes display a playful nature with the relationship of words and meanings, can lead me to overthink the message

Re: Inro of silk brocade in tree

Split in the tip of the petals is a strong indicator for cherry blossoms. End of March, beginning of April. During the viewings, clouds of petals can come spiralling down. See this thread for o-danmaku curtains or wind breaks and tea and cherry blossom viewings. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic...

That's the one guys. It's been on reserve for years. It's not like it was expensive. Someone being tight

Quite right - now my memory refreshed Andy's example not an ashtray, unlike John's.
