Re: Is this a netsuke from end of 19.century?

If you really want to know what i consider a "real" netsuke: A real netsuke is a netsuke you buy from Paul Moss. I can't believe anyone took this sarcastic remark seriously! MOD EDIT - Stan, please review the tutorial on Quoting other posts. Just to avoid confusion here - END MOD EDIT

Nobody questioned your taste. That is an non-issue artificially created, and certainly not by me. I didn't collect manju pieces, and I have no idea of the criteria involved in evaluating them or of their prices.

Re: A few more

I've made another search and still can't find any of the posts dealing with my exchange with Alan. Either you are experiencing technical difficulties or these posts have been deleted, so until I see them, my original resolve stands. :x

Re: A few more

A very good post; your analysis of what happens on this forum is spot-on! Nevertheless, I regretfully agree with your decision not to post further. These people won't change. They have read THE TRUTH, first compiled by an east London drunk in the first part of the 20th century, and they won't tolera...

Re: Is this a netsuke from end of 19.century?

One of our most astute collectors, Klaus, doesn't mind buying netsuke for under $3,000, or even under $1,000, I wonder why? Dave I can't imagine why; Do you know? The only guess I could make is that if one has the time, the willingness, the resources, the energy to search avidly–on the Internet, fl...

Re: Is this a netsuke from end of 19.century?

You couldn't give me these netsuke, but to be brutally frank, you couldn't give me almost any of the netsuke posted recently on this forum. Like most collectors, my taste developed gradually, but in the last decade of my collecting, I couldn't imagine buying a netsuke for under $5,000,. It's not, of...

Re:

Also the wood hare seems recent and does not have the age and patina that we expect from a collectible netsuke. So we would advise you against buying these. Is it that Meiji, So School, and contemporary netsuke are not collectible? By the way, wear and "patina" are not evidence of age, as...

Re:

:P Martyn is correct that this ivory netsuke was almost certainly carved by Yoko in the 1950's-1960's period. The bad news however is that while it is still legal to own said ivory, it is illegal to sell any ivory products that post date 1947. This means that the trader you bought it from was breaki...

When anyone obtains a CITES under these rules, I'd like to know about it.

Golf coins? If you mean gold coins, there's nothing illegal about buying and selling them.
