Re: For Sale Section

Well Matthew, most of the top dealers aren't just selling wares like one might a plastic kettle or a screwdriver. The value of a fine netsuke is very much a matter of perception and if one attempts to sell something like you would sell a kettle then it's value will be perceived accordingly. You'll h...

Re: For Sale Section

Lets simply say that there is in the real world of difference between selling bric-a-brac and the finest fine art and that there is an actual need for a sales section dedicated to genuine but more modest netsuke commerce. To attempt to be all things to all men is rarely successful. ;)

Re: For Sale Section

I'd support such a development in principle. Since there are today so many more netsuke sites on social media and other platforms, the Netsuke and Sagemono Lounge needs to evolve to remain relevant... but instead of the number of pieces that might be offered for sale why not an upper limit on price ...

Re: Fish & Other Aquatic Creatures as Netsuke Subjects

For what it is worth, quote from the e-bay seller of this flat fish - 'As to date it is most likely Meiji'. FWIW.. while I really like it, I think it's more likely to have been made much more recently. Maybe somebody who feels differently might point out any indicator of greater age that I might ha...

Re: When the cat's away the rats dance

Clive, Virginia's Stag rat deserves to live with you .... next time in LA you should lay a peanut butter trap & track her down :) That it does indeed Gopi.. it's the only serious netsuke that I've ever truly wanted to own and both Virginia and then Susan both promised that I get first dibs if i...

Re: When the cat's away the rats dance

What a great selection of rats, my favorite rat though will forever be Virginia's great antler rat on a bulb.. although where it might be these days is a mystery. A carver's carving if ever there was one.. I hope it has found a good home. IMG_8185.JPG I've never carved a rat but have long had a some...

Re: pipe case addition

Regarding the number of layers.. a specific number is really not an absolute requirement. Firstly there are the layers that form the basic black or red foundation for most decorative techniques. Then you have the various layers that will specifically create the pattern desired and then a number of s...
