Re: Lion Dancer

Curt, regarding birthdays, if you go to the board index (main page) and scroll all the way to the bottom below the forums list, you will find how many members/ guests are on line and whether any are having a birthday if they listed a birth date in their profile.

Re: Lion Dancer

I would be interested to hear what our modern carvers think of this carver's pieces over time. Most are not my cup of tea. Who has collected his works?

Re: Favorite Finds of 2017

I'm not very familiar with horse bits but I can't see one being used as the himotoshi on these Koku kiseruzutsu. It looks more to me like the fitting at the top of an abumi (stirrup). I will need to get a quick pic on my phone and post from there what I refer to. This one will be a solid attachment ...

Re: Another frog - history/age??

If you have try to figure out what traits this piece has that places it in that category. Also try using the Search function o...

Re: Interesting ? reading ?

It looks vaguely familiar to me. Might you tell us something about how you acquired it?

Re: Favorite Finds of 2017

It's a nice reminder of your forays while living in Japan, Dave. I like the frog, eggplant (?nasubi), and dragon in clouds but can't associate them unless that is a rain dragon.

Re: Reading signatures

Henrik, while it is good to see you learning about kanji, most of us would suggest you study real signatures and not even try to decipher what inscriptions on NLOs are. Maybe it would be more productive to flip through the pages of your books and look only at the signatures on authentic netsuke, the...

Re: Favorite Finds of 2017

[i]Confucius says: The squirrel can do five things. He can climb a tree, swim in the water, dig a hole, jump and run. All of these are within its capacities but it does none well. When art lacks delicacy it becomes crude and inexact. I hate to argue with Confucius but while talking with some netsuk...
