Re: Favorite Finds of 2017

We acquired this 18th Century tall (10.5cm) stag antler Seiobo on our first trip back to visit friends and attend the SF Chapter meeting after we move south about 350 miles. Sorry about photo orientation. I've messed with these images three times trying to get it right.

Re: Man with stick and a bird

If the hole the cord passes through is supposed to be the himotoshi it totally fails as a netsuke. It looks quite modern to me.
Please spend some time browsing the NLO area to see what not to buy and why and then move on to the forums here with some wonderful antique netsuke. :)

Compare this piece to the Introduction to Modern Souvenir Netsuke and netsuke-like Objects post at the head of this forum. You will see many traits that are described there.

Re: netsuke "Europe"

Raoux, your skill in reproducing the surfaces of various materials is phenomenal. You've perfectly captured the look of leather and zipper of an old tattered change purse complete with stitching.

I'm afraid this one falls into the NLO category.

Re: I believe my winning streak comes to an end.

Curt, if you are pretty sure some are NLOs, putting them in that area and maybe even pointing out what features reveal that classification would be a good exercise for many. Lounge members who feel something there is authentic can point it out and the Mods will move it to an appropriate topic. And g...

Re: I believe my winning streak comes to an end.

Curt, i have to say you have a good attitude about this. With so many pieces could I suggest you select the ones you think are NLOs for a group photo and if people agree the Mods can leave them in this topic rather than processing each post into the NLO forum, thus preserving the continuity of your ...

Re: Signature of a man riding a fish

This piece is a little perplexing for me. Some features seem OK but the signsture looks like it belongs on an NLO. I don't like the way parts such as feet and hands have been excavated around into the fish's body as it appears there was enough material to carve them fully raised above the surface. O...
