Re: I believe my winning streak comes to an end.

Curt, i have to say you have a good attitude about this. With so many pieces could I suggest you select the ones you think are NLOs for a group photo and if people agree the Mods can leave them in this topic rather than processing each post into the NLO forum, thus preserving the continuity of your ...

Re: Signature of a man riding a fish

This piece is a little perplexing for me. Some features seem OK but the signsture looks like it belongs on an NLO. I don't like the way parts such as feet and hands have been excavated around into the fish's body as it appears there was enough material to carve them fully raised above the surface. O...

Re: pipe case addition

Thank you gentlemen. I think the modern framed backpack is quite an improvement on this. If I come back in my next life as a porter I'll try to spend lots of time at roadside with my kiseru, tonkotsu and ashtray netsuke.

Re: Children playing

I don't have photos I'm afraid.
The uchiwa was a good solution to covering an otherwise "busy" bottom that would have had jutting feet and other small parts

Re: pipe case addition

A beautiful pipe case, Reinhard. Is the oizuru more of a box than a bag? I had forgotten the term oizuru and once again you bring us great are and cultural education. Thanks.

Re: Children playing

Its a cute piece from second half 19th century I would say. We only see 3 of the 4 karako with 2 types of drums 0and the shishigashira (head). Please post a couple more views. I've seen similar by one of the later Tomochikas.

Re: man carrying rice basket? Staghorn?

Looks to be a fairly low end antique antler netsuke.

Re: New Member - Thank You Martyn Jones!

Welcome, Curt. I admit I'm one of those people who does not care for the Anrakusai stain on some pieces and sometimes for me border on looking like an NLO. But maybe those are the inferior school pieces. Anyway, none of us get it right every time! You might want to find a copy of the INS Journal wit...
