Also mine is unsigned and I think the one in Paul's book bears a signature.
Have to check & will edit to correct if memory fails.

A hint: what I mostly usually look at is the hairwork of the main and the tail, the size and the shape of the curls and the dental work, of course... ;)

So here are 1) the signed Harutada shishi from that collection, 2) the signed Masatada shishi from the recent Christie's, 3) the unsigned piece from Scholten attributed by them to Harutada based on the Carre one, 4) my Harutada piece and 5) the unsigned shishi from LACMA.

What would you say about their attributions now when seen next to each other?

Don't we see more and more examples of connections and crosspollinations between the two SK Kyoto studios - Mitsuharu and Tomotada supported by the use of the same kanji. Could Harutada been the link, or were they all just sitting next to each other? :o

I think if this was unsigned, Mistuharu would be who the piece is attributed too

I once owned this Tiger, I've only ever seen his signature once but he's such a close follower of Mitsuharu.

Great and rather rare pair, David, definitely wearing all the signs for Mitsuharu attribution!

Here's a couple of my unisigned (but strongly suggestive that this is Mitsuharu's, or a close follower's, work) shishi cub's wrestling:

The artist paid great attention to excavating all areas. This extra attention to details reminds me of this Mitsuharu-Studio shishi where the same has been achieved.

Shishi Harutada signed, $20,000, Van Ham 2015.jpg

The second one was in the Bauer collection once and said to be signed Haruki (signature not provided). It clearly bears some similarities to the one previously shown above, signed Tomotada and sold at the Zake auction quite a few years back...

And what about this signed Masanobu carving, which Paul suggested demonstrates certain features attributable to the Tomotada shop?
ShiShi Tomotada, signed Masanobu 2006.jpg

But the biggest puzzle of all for me is this once offered by Scholten unsigned and unusual piece. I have never seen anything like it to date!
