At the least we could just relax the rule on solicitation and allow notifications such as: "I just received lot xxx from the Bonhams auction. It included a Frustrated Ratcatcher I would be willing to sell or trade. Please PM me if you have an interest"
At the most complex I was thinking of allowing more of a Craigslist type of listing page-again going to PM.

History of the Sale and Trade idea:
The International Netsuke Collectors Society (Editor Helen Hurtig) started in Vol 1 No 1 in spring 1973 with the so called TRADING POST. The rules were set up on page 21.
It gave rules for costs, insurances, photos, commission fees etc. If someone wants to know about the exact details I might copy them.
All sounded nice and idealistic. Did it work in practice? For the first 18 months it seemed so. However in Vol 2 No 2 the Hurtigs rowed back. We can read on page 45:
Due to limited space and our desire to expend article content the Trading Post will be no longer illustrated
In the following issues only a meagre one page was reserved for the Trading Post. In Vol 3 No 2 and No 3 only 2 netsuke were offered. In Vol 3 No 4 none was offered and so it continued till Dec 1979. Then the Trading Post starved a death of dehydration annd was not mentioned again from Vol 7 No 4 on.
What was the reason for the failure? Too complicated to handle, cross border problems, customs, clearing of funds, no judicative. And no fundamental general interrest. To my mind, the Trading Post created contraproductive interrests between members and between those parties who make the netsuke world go round. This are dealer personalities and auction houses.
I daresay without dealers and auction houses there would not be an international society on the topic of netsuke.
Simple to prove: Who made the last convention in Cologne be a success? It were Lempertz, van Ham and Mrs. T. Klefisch to mention the main parties (and the dealers room). Remember the romantic final Gala Dinner in the historical building of the BAHNHOF ROLANDSECK overlooking the River Rhine in a beautiful scenery. The person who made this available was Mr. Henrik Hanstein, boss of Lempertz. He had the idea and the connections to arrange it.
Another example the upcoming convention in Paris. It needs a whole year of planning in advance. See the thread INS CONVENTION 2019.
On August 2nd Mrs R. Bandini wrote: "Plans are shaping up well for our new venue for 2019, but I am not willing to confirm until contracts are signed."
On Sept 25th she wrote: "This is still unofficial .... Barring unforeseen disasters it will be late October in Paris."
Then on Oct 3rd she wrote: "The contract has finally been signed and I can let you know the dates for the 2019 Paris convention will be October 24 - 28th"
This did not come out of the blue sky and not from us the collectors. I am sure it has been the hard work of a single extraordinary personality, Mrs R. Bandini. Doing the talking and writing to peeople and travelling to Paris in person.
Without dealers and auction houses there would not be a world wide spread community of netsuke lovers. The INS would simply not exist. So let them make their business to create the profit they need to be active.
No competition between dealers and auction houses on one side and us the collectors,
Reinhard

If the dealers and auction houses are cut out of the deal so to speak, but then asked to engage in the settling of a deal dispute who will pay for their time; buyer, seller or the INS?
As a dealer INS advertising is very expensive. Certainly in relationship to the number of potential buyers who receive a copy of the journal. If a for sale section (IE. Advertising things for sale) is introduced to the forum will this alternative be equally expensive? And will it be made available to all, Dealer and Collector. I hope so, as if its cheaper and more effective, perhaps dropping the journal advertising (which pays for the paper journal) and going digital is the way forward.
Must run, I've got to close the lid on this pandoras box

You have the opportunity if you spend the time and effort required to increase your income and your real membership and also satisfy pent up demand from those like myself who are extremely isolated from the world of netsuke.
It has taken me years to have a network of buyers and dealers whom I trust, so to find a place where the pieces are vetted but not guaranteed and be able to use PayPal etc works for me every time.
I have never had a problem with the postage systems from Europe or America with the usual tracking and the guarantees of PayPal it is as secure as you could hope for. Exchange rates, transport and returns are now done seamlessly. This is a real opportunity............
